Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon loose Earl Grey tea
  • 1 cup water plus extra for the teapot

Instructions

  • Boil the water: If you have an electric kettle with a temperature setting, set it to 208°F. Boil a bit more water than you need so that some can be used to preheat the teapot. It's best to use filtered water for a cleaner taste.
  • Warm the teapot: Pour a small amount of the hot water into the teapot and swirl it around to warm it up. Then, discard this water.
  • Add the tea: Place the loose Earl Grey tea into the teapot and pour the hot water over it.
  • Steep the tea: Cover the teapot and let the tea steep for 3 to 5 minutes. A steeping time of 4 minutes usually provides a well-balanced flavor.
  • Strain and serve: Strain the tea leaves and pour the hot tea into a teacup.
  • Customize: Add milk and sugar or a slice of lemon to taste, if desired.
